Mid Century + British Columbia =Splendid July.

July has been a whirlwind of a month so far. Right now I'm up in British Columbia tooling around the beautiful countryside with great friends. This past weekend we took a look and tour around the amazing Terravista Vineyards which is located on the Naramata Bench halfway between Penticton + Naramata. Beautiful countryside, and amazing wine! If you're ever in the area, definitely take the tour.

HUGE bonus points was this:

The Mondrian Inspired Tasting area -- and there just happened to be a vintage Mustang parked in front when we showed up, almost as if to welcome the Palm Springs posse!

The Paul Kaplan Group: We're Not Just Agents.

Even though the season is slowly winding down. things have been busy as if it were January it seems.

When not showing houses, or stuffing our faces with cherry pie at staff meetings, we at The Paul Kaplan Group like to do a little side gig called:

MODELING.
Yup.

We modeled in the Deja Vu Vintage Shop Tiki Fashion Show at The Purple Room

Oldsmobiles: Palm Springs Edition

My Dad and I won 2nd Place at The Oldsmobile Car Show in Ohio for the restoration of a
 1957 Olds
circa 1980-ish

That's me holding the award and needless to say,
a love affair and hobby was born.

Since that day I have bought, restored, driven (and eventually sold) about 130 vintage vehicles. Of course, most were done here in Palm Springs which might very well be the classic car capital of the nation.

Thanks to my Father who taught me the ins and outs of classic cars as well as a great deal of respect for the craftsmanship of these beautiful vehicles.

Come Father's Day Weekend, Dad and I are heading out to Lansing, Michigan for the world's largest
A dangerous place for anyone obsessed with Oldsmonbiles as I am! I can't wait!

Anyone Speak German?

My home the Silver Suitcase® was given a very nice shout out (With photo!)  in a German Magazine called Süddeutsche.de . The mag did a lovely piece on Photographer Nancy Baron's book titled "The Good Life" which focuses on the Palm Springs lifestyle.

The Good Life is scheduled to be out in the next few months, and I will post about the release date as soon as I know.

The Countdown to Coachella Music Festival 2014 Begins!

My Coachella Action Adventure Set came in and it only has a wristband and a paper snail with directions to glue glitter to it.

Here's the snail they speak of from last year:

January Re-Cap: When Hollywood’s Glitziest + Most Glamourous Descended onto Palm Springs

The Palm Springs Film Festival kicked the year off with a serious bang and more International Press than you could read in a day.

Palm Springs has been a second home to the movers and shakers of Hollywood since the 1920’s. From the early silent movie days to studio contract players like Marilyn Monroe to TV stars such as Lucille Ball to Crooner Frank Sinatra and his buddies in the Rat Pack and 2014 was no different.

The Black Tie Gala, sponsored by Cartier and BMW rolled out the red carpet for a who’s who of Hollywood and beyond:
Bono + The Edge from U2, Matthew McConaughey, Bradley Cooper, Colin Farrell,George Clooney, Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, and Leonardo DiCaprio to name just a few.  The town was buzzing and it was really wonderful to see Palm Springs glammed out.
This is definitely a perk of living here. Anyone can attend the Gala as well as the films that are shown all over town. No matter how large the The Film Festival has become, it still embraces it roots of democracy for attendees.
Major Props to Mr Matthew McConaughey for embracing the Palm Springs style!
